Who We and How We Started
The COVID-19 pandemic brought immense stress to many, but for Naveen and his family, it became a pivotal moment to launch their own NGO, Hanuman Charity. Witnessing the increasing needs in their community, they began their journey by serving just 20 meals per week.
Today, that effort has blossomed into a dedicated mission where Naveen, his daughters, and a diverse team of volunteers now provide over 800 meals weekly. Regardless of the weather—be it rain or typhoon—Hanuman Charity remains steadfast in its commitment, ensuring that their regular recipients receive the support they need.
Our Mission and Vision
Our mission is to alleviate the suffering of individuals experiencing homelessness and those on the poverty line, both young and elderly living in Hong Kong. We provide freshly cooked nutritious vegetarian meals along with essential items like clothing and toiletries, six times a week. We aim to create meaningful connections with our beneficiaries and strive to build a compassionate community where everyone is treated with kindness, dignity and respect.
Meet the Team
Naveen, also known as Nick, Founder of Hanuman Charity, was born and brought up in Hong Kong and speaks fluent Cantonese. He grew up in a charitable family and has gained knowledge from past experiences in helping the underprivileged in various countries, including Africa and India. He carried these family values on to the other two significant members of the NGO, his daughters, Samiha and Bianca. Together, they run all aspects of the Hanuman Charity, from meal box packing to planning clothing drives.
Why Hanuman?
Hanuman, known as the Monkey God in Hindu mythology, is revered for his unwavering devotion to Lord Rama, remarkable strength, and agility. The name "Hanuman," meaning "disfigured jaw," highlights the importance of humility and the consequences of pride, as illustrated in the Ramayana. Inspired by Lord Hanuman's teachings, our founders have integrated these values into our NGO's mission. They dedicate their strength to create a positive impact, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome to contribute. At Hanuman Charity, we embody compassion, resilience, and humility, striving to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.
